What a fascinating time we’re in! The whole globe is experiencing the same thing, we’re socially distant but virtually together. There are many disappointments and worries, but as long as we’ve still got our health, there are also many silver linings in the storm clouds.
For my henna business, things ground to a halt mid-March of this year, and due to many cancellations through at least July, thousands of dollars are lost. But, thankfully for our family, my husband’s job is in tact and tightening our belts in this time of social distancing is not difficult.
One silver lining I am enjoying is that no henna is helping me analyze where my priorities are and what I want to be doing.
I am returning to my artistic roots and getting back into watercolor portraiture, which I didn’t even realize I had missed. I love capturing that special spark of a loved one, and am offering portraits for sale should that be something you’d like to have.
My whole 6 member family is quarantined together, and it is very special to have us all under one roof for probably some of the last months before independent households are set up and we scatter again. See photos of my quarantine crew here
Many things will be soooo sweet when we can assemble again. Henna community gatherings, community festivals, concerts, travel! When life is on hold anticipation can build for the future. If ‘the greatest value of something lies not in its possession, but in its anticipation’—we are in a very valuable time right now.
What is this anticipation phase teaching you?
I have four kids, and for them this time of year is full of emotion. Looking forward to family break time, and saying goodbye to the current school year and all the people that came with it. For me now, as they grow older and begin to move on, nostalgia is strong and sweet.
It is a saving grace that the cusp of summer also means HENNA!! I've planned a busy summer of henna, and am looking forward to sunshine, festival music and food and seeing you all again soon! Click on the Upcoming Events link to find out where you can find me next.
